Some parts of Bengaluru city, including Peenya, might soon get uninterrupted electric power supply. The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) began work on upgrading the substations. The corporation expects to complete this project by December 2018.
The KPTCL has already started work near Brindavan Alloys in Peenya, Kumbalagodu in the western suburb of Bengaluru, opposite ITI Township on Old Madras Road and near National Games Village in Koramangala.
Once this project completes, KPTCL will upgrade these 66/11 KV stations to 22/11 KV stations. The Peenya station will be ready by March 2019, while the others will be ready by December 2019. Power cuts, due to various technical reasons, have caused several problems for industrial areas,
especially in and around Peenya. The industries here have had to face the challenge of power outage while striving to accomplish the customer orders on time.
According to a senior KPTCL officer, the work to lay new power lines has started already and is in full swing. The upgrade will ensure uninterrupted power supply to the city. Once the upgraded stations start operating, there will be no power interruptions or load shedding.
The KPTCL has opted to upgrade the existing power stations instead of establishing new stations either in the hearts of the city or on the outskirts, due to lack of space and cost factors.
