However, the report, “Women Entrepreneur (WE) Cities Index” had some words of encouragement for Delhi, saying that despite the 49 th rank, Delhi can use its market size (third place among global cities) to its advantage.
The Index analyses the ease with which women can run businesses in different countries. Delhi and Bengaluru were the only Indian cities to feature in this Index.
Dell and London-based financial services company IHS Markit conducted the research that was the basis for the report. The report was released during the Dell Women Entrepreneur Network (DWEN) summit held in Toronto, the financial capital of Canada.
The list had New York at the top, followed by San Francisco, London and Stockholm. US cities Boston, Washington DC, Los Angeles and Seattle made it to the top 10. Singapore was the only Asian city to feature in the top 10 cities in this list.
Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo and Jakarta were the other Asian cities in the list of 50 global cities having an environment favourable for women to do business.
Dell’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Customer Officer Karen Quintos explained that although women’s entrepreneurship rates rose globally by 13 per cent last year, reflecting broader momentum of increased female representation across the public and private sectors in the world, issues such as access to capital and technology, cultural and political barriers continue to limit the success of
women-owned businesses globally.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
