[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]With the results of the Karnataka Assembly Elections declared on 15th May, Dasarahalli Assembly Constituency got a new representative R Manjunatha of the Janata Dal (Secular), who won by defeating his predecessor, two-time legislator S Muniraju of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Manjunatha polled over 90,000 votes. The voter turnout at Dasarahalli was only about 48%.

Dasarahalli constituency includes Peenya Industrial Complex, one of the world’s largest industrial areas. Despite this reputation, Peenya faces a lack of basic amenities such as drainage network, goo roads and streetlights. In addition, water scarcity, traffic snarls, poor garbage management and lack of footpaths are perennial problems in Dasarahalli constituency.

When the president of Peenya Inustries Association, Mr Malyadri Reddy brought these long-pending issues and lack of infrastructure to the notice of the authorities, he got a standard reply that those working in Peenya are not voters or residents of this ward.

Industrial effluents may have cause the death of the Vrushabhavati River, says a study by Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE). Also, red category industries have caused water pollution.

Dasarahalli is a new consitituency that was formed after delimitation in 2007 and this constituency voted for the first time in 2008, in the Karnataka Assembly elections. The proximity of Dasarahalli to the Kempegowda International Airport and two Metro stations (Dasarahalli an Jalahalli) should be reasons enough to improve amenities in this constituency. Thus it remains to be seen whether the new MLA fulfils the hopes of the Dasarahalli voters, and how.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
