The Peenya Industries Association (PIA) decided to set up its own Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) in Peenya. The Government of Karnataka granted INR 10 crores towards the CETP in it budget presentation. The CETP will be set up on 20,000 sq. ft the Karnataka State Pollution Board (KSPCB) land. The cost of the CETP is about INR 25 lakhs and the PIA would raise the remaining funds through CSR. Having the CETP in Peenya will reduce the time and costs for transporting the effluents because until now, the industries had to transport the effluents to a private plant at about INR 7 per litre. Once the CETP in Peenya becomes operational, the industries can get the effluents transported at very less cost.
