Peenya Industrial Association in collaboration with the State Pollution Board took the task of having an awareness program on plastic management and handling rules. This program was very informative also the participants being proactive understood the new rules.
The Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 brings in extended producers responsibility to ensure a collect back system of plastic waste by the producers, brand owners. Collection of plastic waste management fee through pre-registration of the producers, importers of plastic carry bags/multilayered packaging and vendors selling the same for establishing the waste management system. These new developments were the major points of discussion.
Dr D R Ravi, Deputy Environment Officer also enlightened the participants about using plastic waste for road construction as per Indian Road Congress guidelines or energy recovery, or waste to oil etc. for gainful utilization of waste. He also addressed the waste disposal issues. These important topics were touched upon. He said that plastic management is a major challenge that is now being faced major industries. He also spoke about the new schemes and ideas for the plastic management. He also said there is a clear need for the current approach of waste disposal in India that is focused on municipalities and uses high energy/high technology, to move more towards waste processing and waste recycling (that involves public-private partnerships, aiming for eventual waste minimization – driven at the community level, and using low energy/low technology resources.
PIA has been taking many initiatives to deal with the plastic wastes. Awareness programs was conducted on the ill effects of plastics and the need to use alternatives to the “use and throw plastic” items to the public/Government body. The association is conducting plastic waste awareness program periodically and meetings with local bodies, to establish plastic waste collection centers.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
